Rossett is a pretty village that sits alongside the River Alyn. It plays host to a number of unusual and striking buildings that have made it a source of inspiration to painters and artists for many years. The Jacobean Trevalyn Hall is made up of drunken timbers that give it a pleasingly unsteady appearance, whilst the local Church calls the inhabitants using tubular bells designed in the 19th Century. There is a golf course available for enthusiasts, while those interested in nature might like to try and spot the abundant wildlife that has made the River Alyn its home. The River Alyn is also a great local fishing spot and plays host to a number of other pursuits such as kayaking and the occasional prospector looking for elusive Welsh gold. The village has a number of good restaurants, pubs and shops and there are more to be found further afield in the historic city of Chester. Chester plays host to a variety of other attractions, such as Chester Zoo and the notable Gateway Theatre.

Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.

Reviews of Hen Cottage

"Downstairs is a large sitting/dining room with comfortable sofas and a large dining table. There is also a large kitchen which is reasonably kitted out. The bedrooms upstairs are good sizes. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are acceptable. There were some problems with the showers when we stayed but hopefully the owner will have fixed them. Outside is space for kids to play. The outside play equipment is a little old but the kids still had fun on the trampoline and playing football. We managed to find enough things to do in the surrounding area. Chester is great for a day trip as is Llandudno."

"It was lovely and huge, so there was plenty of space for the four adults, three-year old and baby. The area is very interesting and we visited Chester Zoo which is top standard and also the lovely N.T. house and wolf's den grounds at Erddig. It was only five miles away from the cottage and absolutely unique."

"Hen Cottage was a spacious, immaculately clean accommodation. There were many practical and welcoming touches and the property boasts the additional interest of animals and a play area for children. Location was excellent for reaching many places of interest, details of which were available in the cottage. The owner was most helpful and made us feel welcome. "

"We were greeted by our host, Bev, who showed us around and explained the workings of the cottage. Our visit, in February, was when the weather was particularly cold and we were pleased to find the heating had been on for some time before our arrival. The cottage is well furnished and we found it very comfortable. This is a working farm in a rural location and you need to be aware that the shop is not at the end of the driveway. That said there are lots of walks and the 'play area' is great. There are loads of places to visit in the area and it is an ideal touring centre, i.e. Chester, Liverpool, North Wales, etc. We loved it staying in Hen Cottage, the only 'gripe' are several low beams but after a couple of knocks you soon get used to them."
