Reviews of Pen Y Bont

"PEN-Y-BONT. A lovely location by the river. Looked forward to a peaceful 7 night stay. A little basic but cosy with the log burner going. First evening a bat appeared flying round the living room. Managed to catch it and put it out. This happened for 5 of the 7 nights. On the last evening having removed 1 bat from the bathroom I gave up with 3 flying around the living room. Spent the last evening in the bat free kitchen . Previous visitors had mentioned the bats in the visitors book so the owner must have been aware of the problem. Sykes weren't interested when we complained."

"A beautiful location. Had driven 300 miles to get there so quite tired.Got the fire going and settled down to a quiet evening. Bat appeared and started flying around the living room. Partner was freaked out about this and retired to the kitchen until I could remove it. This was repeated for 5 out of the 7 nights there. On the final day, found a bat flying round in the bathroom at 6 in the morning. It settled under the bath mat hanging on the side of the shower. Left it there for the day and put the mat out in the evening. Caught the bat in the living room again and put it out only to be confronted by 3 more bats flying round. Retired to the kitched for the last night. When we complained to Sykes we were asked why we hadn't reported it straight away. No phone signal. Owner was aware of bats. Might be good for halloween."

"I went here with my other half for 3 nights in January for my birthday and I could not have asked for a better place to go. The cottage is absolutely lovely and to wake up every day to the sound of the river and spectacular views is the best way to start the day. The pub up the road does great food and has such friendly staff and is worth a visit. The cottage itself is very cosy, clean and has everything you need. The only thing we couldn't work out was the aga grill but other than that no problems at all. I would highly recommend this cottage and we will definitely be returning."

"Small stone cottage on bend in the river. Exactly as described by owners. Setting and views are simply stunning. Sit in the huge window and just hypnotise yourself with the waterfall and wildlife. Outside decking lovely in warmer weather, I imagine. Any dogs you bring must be sheep/pheasant friendly or kept on lead. Well equipped for a short or longer stay. Bedrooms and beds very comfy. Lounge cosy with lovely leather sofas and a gorgeous wood burning stove. Being North Wales the TV signal doesn't reach but you wouldn't come here to watch telly! If desperate you can bring an Amazon Firestick, which works fine. No mains services except electric. Pure borehole water means pressure a bit low and together with an electric water heater makes the post walk shower experience slow and a bit hit and miss. The sun shone all weekend but this time of year still a little chilly. With all heaters on and the log burner going the cottage was warm enough; lounge very cosy indeed. Milk left in fridge for us by owners. And some cake! "

"Visited Pen Y Bont from Friday 30th September to Friday 7th October 2016. The perfect place in every way! A well-equipped and very cosy cottage with wonderful views. Everything you need to settle in is made available to you - tea, coffee, etc. Beautiful location with the picturesque River, wildlife in abundance - especially pheasants! Great central location for many Snowdonia's attractions. Fantastic eateries especially The Red Lion and Cross Foxes. Also try the Tea Rooms in the local village - just lovely. Hope to visit again. Thank you."

"Fantastic cottage!. Great views from the bedroom windows of the river and wildlife (kingfishers, pheasants, dippers, wagtails, leaping fish, herons and bats). Our son enjoyed paddling and raft building as well as bat watching in the evening. The cottage was just what we needed - perfectly placed for relaxing and a little bit of touring. The Brigands Inn is a must visit for Sunday lunch. Dolgellau was the nearest place for food shop and parkrun. Also handy for Snowdon and Blaenau Ffestiniog (slate mines and Bounce). We hope to visit again in the future."

"Fantastic immaculate cottage, who cares about lack of TV signal? River at the moment is fascinating and loved the bridge further down. Loads of wildlife, too early in the year for salmon, but maybe one year we'll see some. The improvements which have been made, mainly the decking outside, are well done. Having breakfast and evening meals outside on the decking overlooking the river was a real treat. Fantastic views from inside anyway, so even if it's raining, the views are still as great. Central for touring mountains, sea and main towns which is a bonus, nothing is too distant for day trips. If you are looking for a proper relaxing place to stay, this is it. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable."

"What a beautiful little hidden gem, a real get away from it all place to stay. Sat right on the River Dovey and surrounded by the Welsh hills and countryside you feel like the only people in the world but you are only a short drive from civilisation if you want it. We have just enjoyed a really relaxing holiday in this lovely Welsh stone cottage with a cosy wood burner and no tv, except to watch DVDs on if you wish too. I was happy to just sit and read and listen to the roaring river running right next to the cottage and watch the flickering flames of the log burner, then there are all of the birds to watch from the window seat in the bedroom. I can't emphasise how great a place this is to stay, there was every thing we needed and we were very comfortable with all furnishings etc . Decorated to an authentic style with well equipped kitchen and a downstairs shower room. "
