Reviews of The Auld Kirk
"Lovely cottage, but ruined by the development directly opposite - a huge, wood-burning woodchip production plant. Noise, smoke and totally unsightly. Sadly with the wind being mostly from the west, it means the cottage was often cloaked in smoke, which made sitting outside impossible. Also, the road is very close and the timber lorries and quarry trucks caused a lot of alarm as they passed by at speed."

"Former church beautifully renovated to a very high standard. Location is 4 miles from the coast in a lovely rural spot. Our children loved the house as we did. We were welcomed with freshly baked scones, jam and cream with a lovely bottle of red wine. The house is well equipped so great for cooking an evening meal, we took our own however plenty of tea, coffee etc All rooms are comfortable and spacious with loads of storage, all have TVs with sky tv and DVD players. House was spotless, there were 2 ensuite shower rooms and a large bathroom with a walk in shower. I would think this house would be good if you had mobility issues as the main bedroom is downstairs as is the main bathroom. This is an ideal location if you want to visit the north coast of Scotland, the beaches are amazing, plenty of fishing and great for cycling and walking. We only met Ronnie who owned the house as his wife was unfortunately in hospital, he is a gem and made us feel so welcome to his lovely part of Scotland. We would strongly recommend this house and hope to return one day."

"The Auld Kirk is located about 30 minutes from Thurso in far north Scotland. It is in rather an isolated spot (no wifi and only intermittent phone coverage at best) and although the view across the valley is quite nice, the closeness to an electricity sub station is a concern. The cottage itself has been nicely renovated and offers two decent sized bedrooms, both with lovely ensuites as well as a great family bathroom with a huge bath. The kitchen is well stocked (although the cutlery was a bit hard to find). The lounge is comfortable with a large TV, and there was a lovely welcome gift of a bottle of wine."

"The house is stunning inside, light, clean, spacious, luxurious. Outlook is also stunning towards the Highlands. We were so impressed with the position of the house and the interiors that would love to go back to it one day. The house is equipped so well, a pleasure to cook in the kitchen every night. It has 3 bathrooms and spacious bedrooms - simply luxurious like a hotel stay. We enjoyed it immensely and highly recommend. The owners are warm and friendly. "

We would love to come back here and we would highly recommend it. I really enjoyed the views and after a busy day I could sit on the sofa and had wonderful vistas through the windows both to my left and right. Such a great place to stay. "

"Last week of July we stayed a week in the Auld Kirk. The house was spotless, the kitchen well appointed and the shower just great (altough we only used one out of three). Upon arrival there were scones waiting for us as well as a bottle of wine. The area the house is situated in is beautiful. There were flying a lot of birds although we did not see any merlins."
