Location

The Loft is a welcoming end of terrace cottage, on a working livestock farm, situated just three miles from the historic town of Annan. The cottage is a former 19th Century stable block, which has been renovated to a good standard to provide a light and airy open plan living area with a well equipped fitted kitchen area and sitting area that has wonderful picture windows, which overlook the farm. This cottage sleeps four and has two bedrooms - one double and one single, plus there are many shared on-site facilities including a hot tub, games room, children's playground and gardens. There are many attractions and places to visit nearby, such as Annan with its links to history, and walkers, cyclists and golfers are all well catered for with many walks, cycle tracks and golf courses in the area. The breathtaking Lake District and Hadrian's Wall are within driving distance. The Loft is an ideal cottage from which to explore this magnificent area.

Situated on the banks of the River Annan, the historic town of Annan was once the site of Roman camps and the workplace of the writer Thomas Carlyle. In honour of the Royal Charter bestowed by King James V, every year, the town celebrates with parades, massed pipe bands and competitions. Many small towns, villages, hamlets and stunning sandy beaches make up the area around the town. Further afield are the city of Glasgow, the abbeys of Melrose and Jedburgh, plus the northern part of the Lake District and Hadrian's Wall. Annan and the surrounding area are a perfect base, at any time of the year.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Reviews of The Loft

"A very nice place to stay. The owners were friendly and welcoming. The property itself was cozy and warm. The hot tub was just amazing after a day out on the cold :) However...it is on a working farm so the animals could be noisy at times and farmers have an early start...if that's your thing then I would definitely recommend it as a base :)"

"I have just returned from a stay at The Loft and it was a lovely, comfortable stay. The cottage was immaculate and lovely and warm, just what we needed with the wet weather. We had a warm welcome from the owner and there were fresh flowers, milk, biscuits etc on arrival which was a lovely touch. There is a games room with pool table, loads of toys, DVD's etc. The hot tub was clean and perfect for relaxing after a day in the chilly wet weather. Both the games room and hot tub were shared but we never saw anyone else go in them during our stay. Our three year old especially liked being greeted by the three farm dogs in the morning, they were all incredibly chilled out, friendly dogs. The farm is located in a beautiful area and not too far from Annan. We would definitely return here, possibly in the summer months when more of the nearby seasonal places are open. All in all a really pleasant stay."

"My hols was booked through Scottish Cottages . When we arrived we were confronted by a building site 100 yards from property. Two large dogs followed us around and my own dogs were really upset. the wind got up during the evening and together with the noise of the machinery on building site was intolerable . During the night we could not sleep with the noise the next day we were moved. The owners agreed the property was not fit for letting during building work and no warning was given to Scottish Cottages Scottish Cottages were very good however"

"The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped, we received a very warm and friendly welcome from the owner, and she was more than happy to make our holiday both memorable and enjoyable and we would be more than happy to stay in the cottage again! The location was ideal for us to attend a wedding at Gretna Green as Dumbretton Farm is only 10 minutes drive away. We visited many places during our stay including Edinburgh, Stirling and Roslyn Chapel, but the highlight of the week had to be visiting the Red Kite Feeding station in Laurieston which was a truly amazing experience and well worth the 1 hour drive. "Dumbretton Farm is extremely beautiful and clean. Everything that you would need in a home is provided in the cottage. Owners are very nice and welcoming. This meant that all you had to do was find your entertainment. The games room was brilliant with table tennis and the hot tub was amazing. The park and grass area was fab too with plenty space to play games. Definitely a relaxing holiday break for a family. We ventured out to Dumfries and Carlisle and found plenty places to visit. "

"The absolute friendliness shown by the Owner. A welcome including fresh flowers, two pints of milk, supply of tea, coffee, sugar, variety of herbs and condiments - it was definitely home from home. Exceptionally clean farm premises, a working farm, very busy but immaculately clean. A well equipped playing field for any age children, plus hot tub etc. Two very friendly and well trained dogs came to welcome us each time we returned to the premises. Merits all of the excellent ratings I have given. Even the weather was good!"
