With a name that means 'small fort', the village of Doonbeg in County Clare evolved around the remains of Doonbeg Castle, a fortification built in the 16th Century. The village itself and the surrounding area has a good variety of pubs - many of which offer traditional Irish music performances - whilst golf enthusiasts will enjoy Greg Norman's course at Doughmore. The area is full of great walking and cycling opportunities, whilst equestrian enthusiasts are well catered for with plenty of facilities for horse riding. Doughmore Strand and Spanish Point are renowned for quality surfing, whilst Kilrush and Carrigaholt offer boat trips for dolphin watching.
County Clare has so much on offer; boat trips, quirky pubs, seaside resorts and a great tradition for Irish music, all set amidst spectacular scenery such as the towering Cliffs of Moher and the fascinating landscape of The Burren.
