Location
This impressive cottage is part of a grade II listed barn conversion, which is situated on the owner's 700-acre farm in the hamlet of Plaish near Cardington. Dating from the 16th Century, this property offers a range of period features as well as all necessary modern amenities including oak beams, wall timbers, exposed stone walls and four wonderful bedrooms. Guests have the use of two games rooms within the owner's grounds in addition to a private two mile farm and woodland walk, a picnic area, and an abundance of wildlife. Children can also enjoy the opportunity to feed the chickens and enjoy pony rides whilst the owners offer stabling together with hacks and cross country jumps with access to the Jack Mytton Way.
Set amidst the rolling hills of the South Shropshire countryside, the village of Cardington boasts the oldest pub in Shropshire - The Royal Oak - which is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Its rural location makes a wonderful base whilst sightseeing and the village provides miles of country paths in all directions through the beautiful Shropshire hills, making this an excellent spot for cyclists and walkers. There is a wide variety of birdlife - including buzzards, woodpeckers and ravens, as well as the Acton Scott Historic Working Farm, Severn Valley Steam Railway, Stokesay Castle, Shrewsbury, Ludlow and the Ironbridge Gorge – boasting as many as 10 museums. The attractive market towns of Church Stretton - known as 'Little Switzerland' by the Victorians - and Much Wenlock are both within easy driving distance and offer a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants.
A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

"We had a fantastic weekend at The Olde Cow House to celebrate my 40th birthday with family The house was lovely, clean and very comfortable. The location is beautiful and the children enjoyed the animals and walk in the countryside. We had a lovely time in the swimming pool and games room. There was lots to do in the surrounding area. "Stayed here for a week towards the end of february this year. The property itself was amazing, so much character, and really well equipped, it has everything you need for a stay. Swimming pool was really good, and there's plenty of other activities for the kids, such as go-karts, tennis, and exploring the farm. The location is excellent; rural enough to be very peaceful, yet within easy access of Shropshires many attractions, making this property a perfect base to explore the local area."

"A great location in the Shrophsire countryside. Great for families. There were go karts, lots of outdoor areas to play on site and The Olde Cow House was a lovely house. The kitchen was very well equipped, there were childrens toys and books etc. Very homely. A great house. There was a swimming pool which you paid for separately on site. It's a little expensive for what it is and you are only allowed 2 hours in the pool - this is a strict 2 hours so be sure not to overstay. This was my only complaint actually as we were ushered out in a very unrelaxed way to allow members in. We had to be out by 5pm and members are allowed in from 5pm. It would be way better to have a 15 minute pause inbetween as a changeover time as it did taint our visit to the pool a little. Aside from that it was a very enjoyable stay and i would highly recommend it."

"This was one of the best Sykes cottages we have stayed in. The accommodation was spacious and very well equipped, with loads of thoughtful additions for parents like highchair, plates and cutlery, cups, toys and even a pushchair! Outside, we didn't even notice the poor weather - everyone was entertained by the animals, the play area and the tennis court. My son loved collecting eggs from the hens and seeing the pigs. Nearby there is a lovely and very reasonable pub in Cardington and we found plenty to do in the surrounding area. We'd like to go again when the weather is better so we can make more of the countryside walks. "

It was great to be able to let the kids go out and play (pedal go-karts were a big hit), and for them to see all the chickens/pigs/sheep/ lambs/dogs/pony. The games room was a nice addition allowing us to play pool, table tennis and table football. A shame we only came for the long weekend - we are planning to return, for a whole week next time."

The cottages are all very beautiful, and it is difficult to choose between them. It's very much a family place and caters for grand children and grand parents alike. You can take toddlers for short walks to see horses, chickens, and pigs. Older children have the games area which is suitable for every age,(including adults). Nature lovers can go for long walks in the surrounding countryside, and grandparents can sit on the patio drinking tea and watching all the activities. We have only stayed during the winter; it must be a wonderful place in the summer when you can take picnics and sit by the lake or play a game of rounders in the fields."
