Reviews of Basil Barn
"A beautiful, well laid out barn with all mod cons. Plenty of space for six adults plus visitors. A lovely garden area with neighbouring friendly goats and plenty of walks by the river. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to book again in the near future. Our only minor grumble was that the WiFi connection was unstable and temperamental. All in all we had a fantastic stay."

"We were immensely impressed by the welcome given by owners. The property exuded class and we were very pleased with all aspects of our stay. It was comfortable in every way and it is in delightful surroundings, the added delights of the two goats and the peacocks made for a memorable stay. Fully recommended. "

"Basil Barn is in a very good location for exploring North Lancashire, the South Lake District and the Forest of Bowland. The barn is a good size for six people and a toddler and is well appointed. "

"Upon arrival, we were told that the internet would not be working and was out all over the area until 2 days after we leave. An engineer was coming to fix the main 02 mast but until then, there would be no connection. We were not informed that we would not be able to use our phone's mobile data, nor could we text or make calls. So basically we were unable to contact anyone over Christmas and our 6 year son was upset. We later discovered that this was completely untrue and it was just the cottage that had a poor broadband service and archaic modem as we were able to connect when leaving the cottage walking our dogs. The house came with no hygiene or cleaning products, so a trip to the Spar (A good drive away) was necessary to stock up on bin liners, loo roll, washing up liquid, cloths, cleaning sprays, hand wash. The owner knocked on the door late evening on Christmas Eve to tell us off for leaving the mop bucket outside, rather than appreciate our explanation that it was only out there as we had just walked our dogs and wanted to wash the mud off to protect their white matt walls, he just felt the need to remind us AGAIN that the dogs were not allowed in the bedrooms. We felt watched as I am sure I saw him walking past on Christmas day looking in the window in the pouring rain. So overall, not relaxing, not welcoming, not equipped, not apologetic for not providing internet or a phone service (The cottage is NOT that remote) We left a day early as it was all too stressful in the end so spent Christmas day evening packing so we could leave on Boxing day. We cleaned the place from top to bottom and texted the owners upon arriving back home but got no reply. I emailed them but no reply. It was only after 3 days and my sending another text that she responded just to tell me to take my complaint up with the agents I rented through. Not good customer service, not a good experience, very upsetting and after spending a huge amount more as it was over Christmas, we are stunned that the owners wash their hands of any responsibility to their own property. We are utterly devastated and gave the owners a fair chance to respond to our issues before leaving this review but they are not interested. Only want the money it seems. Oh and they live just a few yards away, so be prepared to listen to them revelling in their hot tub at 11pm laughing loudly and clinking wine glasses."

"Lovely big barn, quite capable of sleeping 6 with ease. Well equipped kitchen etc, the bedrooms were large although headroom on the upstairs room was interesting being in the roof. Only 3 miles from Lancaster, very close to the golf club and garden centre which has a cafe. Only downside would be the shared washing machine in the communal shed and without the log burner all fired up it felt a little chilly. It could also benefit from a 'recommendations ' book for places to visit and eat rather than a pile of leaflets. Only minor things, we had a lovely holiday here overall, great for dog walking, only an hour to the lakes and five minutes from Lancaster. I would recommend this holiday rental."

"Stayed here for a relaxing family holiday and was great that we could take the dog. Location is great especially if your a golf nut like me as there is a nine hole course and driving range just meters away and lancaster G.C just 5 mins walk away. You can walk down to the pub but not great access onto the footpath as you have to climb down an embankment to get to it. Only short drive into city centre as we'll. the cottage it's self was ok but could do with a little more effort ! The grass in garden was not cut which was not great for kids to play in or for lifting dog dirt, there was a lot of cobwebs that have been there for a while, there we're loose tiles and shelves in bathroom and the trees were growing over onto driveway which we're catching the cars. If little things like this we're kept on top off the place would be excellent."

Had good walks from the door and a pub within walking distance. In easy reach of Lancaster and a supermarket. It was nice and quiet, had plenty of parking and nice helpful owners next door.
