There's a pub in Hunwick, and Bishop Auckland has an arts complex and shops. Also within reach are Durham with its cathedral and castle, along with the town of Barnard Castle. October Cottage is a great base for a couple.

A short drive away is the bustling town of Bishop Auckland, which is set above the River Wear and has an arts complex and a range of independent shops. On the outskirts of the town you can wander the ancient stones of the Binchester Roman Fort. Also the city of Durham and Barnard Castle are close by.

"We were absolutely delighted with our stay at October Cottage. The cottage was immaculate and our stay was cosy and comfortable. A complete gem and beautifully presented. We would definitely book October Cottage again for a further stay. A pub is located within easy walking distance, serving really nice fresh made meals. It's ideally located to use as a base for visiting the local area."

"This was a great place to stay, the cottage is ideally located, immaculately clean, well equipped and very comfortable. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. Excellent location and a lovely pub about 5 houses away serving good food and wines."

"Had a very enjoyable stay in this property. House is very comfortable and well equipped. Was very warm despite weather being pretty chilly outside. Location is very central for exploring in every direction with more than enough to do. Certainly hope to return in the future. "
